Shaykh Ahmadou Bamba (R.A.)

Shaykh ahmadou bamba (R.A.) (the “shaykh”) was born in the year 1271 (A.H.), that is 1853 in mbacke baol, a small village in Senegal. He is the son of muhammad, and grandson of abibul-allah, who was the son of muhammad. His father mohammad ibn habiballah was a famous juriconsult and well-respected imam. The shaykh’’s mother was known as diaratoullah (close to Allah) because of her renowned piety and chastity. He memorized the holy qu’ran very early.

The Foundation of Touba (1887-88)

To flee the incessant crowds attracted by his notoriety and to regain solitude and calm propitious to adoration, the Sheikh left Mbacké his ancestral village and built at few kilometres south-east an isolated house called Darou Salam. Three years later (in 1887-88) he founded a bit farther the village of Touba.

The Founding of the Muridiyah (1882-83)

Wholly subject to the sacred obligation of filial devotion, Sheikh Ahmadu BAMBA’s strong personality never had necessary latitude to express fully itself until his father’s death. So the events which took place during the very burial of Momar Anta Sali were going to reveal his true spiritual physiognomy in confirming the particularity of his moral attitude as well as his indisputable supremacy over his contemporaries.

The Origins of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba (1853-1883)

The Servant of the Prophet (PBH) was born in Senegal (West Africa) few years after the official abolition of slavery (1848), in the village of Mbacké founded in 1795 by his forefather Maharam MBACKE. This latter begot a son called Habib Allah who was the father of Muhammad MBACKE (commonly known under the name of Momar Anta Sali) who will later give birth to Sheikh Ahmadu BAMBA.
